Fifty Years Worldwide, Twenty in Cambodia

On August 24, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Admin

On Wednesday night, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as its 20th year in Cambodia.  I hosted the reception with my friend and colleague Flynn Fuller, USAID/Cambodia Mission Director.

It’s always great to come together with friends over food and drinks, but Wednesday’s event meant a lot to me and the rest of the U.S. Mission because we were able to share the wonderful contributions of USAID and its partners in improving the lives of Cambodians.  For the past twenty years, USAID’s imprint on Cambodia’s economic and democratic development has highlighted the partnership, the people, the progress, and the success here.

As you can see from the photos, we had a great evening.  I’ve already heard back from a few of our guests and they told me what a great time they had.  We also screened a short film about USAID’s work in Cambodia.  You should watch it here.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing the beautiful cake and accompanying cupcakes that were brought in for the celebration.  You can see by the pictures how intricate the decorations are.  They’re almost too good to eat!

I really enjoyed taking the time to reflect on USAID’s 20 years in Cambodia as well as the agency’s 50th Anniversary.  We will be putting more information about the exciting activities we support in the weeks and months to come so please check back in!
