I visited a potter's family, a Bishnoi house and a traditional durri weaver's home on the outskirts of Jodhpur city October 14 with my wife and family.

On a trip to Jodhpur, we were able to take in the history of Mehrangarh Fort, have dinner with the Maharaja and his family at Umaid Bhawan Palace, and visit a nearby village inhabited by the passionate environmentalist Bishnoi community. The fort is high above the city of Jodhpur, and has magnificent and skillfully restored royal chambers which vividly recapture princely life and the unique culture of Rajasthan. A warm welcome in the colorful cityWe traveled out to a village where we met with talented potters, weavers, and farmers who welcomed us with music, garlands, and dance. I wanted to learn more from them about how they harvest and collect water in an arid environment and sustain their crops and families. There are valuable lessons here for India, the United States, and the world community on water scarcity issues.

    Dear Mr. Roemer,
I am a real big fan of your attempt at using modern technology to be able to reach out to the common ordinary man like us. Needless to mention that your work in India will go down in the history as a ground breaking one. I must specifically mention your article in which you chose to suffix Gandhi with “ji”…..that one symbollic gesture meant to show respect to Gandhi in Indian way shows that deep thoughtful side of yours……With administrators like you at helm, citizens of the world will feel safe and secure…….We need more of Roemers in this world- especially in two of world’s biggest and most talked about democracies……..Please continue this act of connecting with the masses- there is nothing better than this.

    Best regards
    Alok

Hi, just came across your blog and saw your pictures in Rajasthan. They are gorgeous! I am actually from Jaipur ( wonder if you got to do some traveling there) , so I can relate to it. I am currently in Texas and went to both Texas A&M and UT for master degrees. However, planning on visiting India soon and have similar pictures as yours :) Regards.
