An inspiring visit to Sonia Vihar
Sitting on the rooftop of a house in Sonia Vihar slum, with a cool breeze blowing, I met with 48 women community leaders. All dressed in bright colored orange, green, purple, and blue sarees, they conveyed moving and emotional stories about how a USAID sponsored program, in partnership with the government of Delhi, has transformed their lives. Through maternal health programs, vocational education, and microenterprise loans, they have a new and hopeful life. Now, they want to do this for others and teach neighbors about polio immunization, how to read, and how to sew on a machine. This proves how seed money and smart investment can help people now, and how they in turn, will spread goodwill and knowledge to countless others. An inspiring visit.
