During the visa interview, if you are refused under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the officer will hand you a 221(g) letter (green paper) requesting additional information. To continue the visa application, please follow the instructions and provide the needed documents.
Alternatively, you may be refused under 221(g) because your application requires additional administrative processing. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for the interviewing officer to tell the applicant exactly how long the processing will take. On average, administrative processing can take between one to two weeks, but sometimes it takes a little longer.
If you have been requested to wait until the Embassy contacts you, please do not make an appointment. The Embassy will contact you once the administrative processing has been completed. If you are requested to provide documentation, you have one year within which to comply with the requirement of the 221(g) letter.
For more information on 221g, read our blog post “Tips for Your Next Embassy Visit.”
If your application was temporarily refused under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act on or after January 2, 2011, you can now check the status of your application online.

can a person who won the lottery, but prior to winning was jobless and no employment history, and then applies for a visa for tourism purposes. what is the embassy’s take on this? will his lucky streak continues by being given a visa?
Essentially, the consular officer needs to see that the applicant has sufficiently strong familial, social, professional and economic ties to the Philippines that would compel return after a temporary stay in the United States. Information on ties and how applications are evaluated are provided in our website..
I had my interview last May 14, 2012, and unfortunately the consul don’t give me my K1 visa and i don’t receive a green letter. According to her, my fiance cannot support me if ever i get to US. My fiance’s work is a daycare provider which he run in his home. And it reflect to his ITR that he only received an amount of $15,000. He is a business owner and he doesn’t have payslip or pay stub that I can bring on my interview. But as my fiance and I both know that he can able to support me if ever I get there. What can we do now? Does he need to make another filing of petition? Or do I need to ask an appointment for interview if ever I have the supporting documents showing that he is more than capable of supporting me?

What if after the interview the officer found out that i am ineligible and unable to issue an immigrant visa, what does it mean and what will happen to my visa application? Then what should i do to overcome this kind of situation?Thank you.

My fiance is a filipino transexual, I am applying for a visa to bring her to the states, I’ve heard though from some of her friends have said that this is not allowed, Can you tell me wether or not this is true?
If your intent is for your fiance to immigrate to the United States, you must file an I-129F petition for your fiance (http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f). United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has the sole discretion to approve this petition. The regulations regarding transgender applicants have evolved over time; we suggest you contact USCIS directly with your inquiry: National Customer Service Center (NCSC): 1-800-375-5283.

I was interviewed on May 18, 2012, but was refused a visitor visa for the reasons that I was not able to establish that I intend to stay in the U.S. temporarily and that I was not able to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent. When I reviewed my application letter, I found out that the agency who prepared for my application letter, did not supply all the necessary reasons for my need to go to the United Sates. Hence I need to reapply for a visitor visa. I need to got to the U.S. because my sister is in dire need for my help. She is living there alone by herself and she is suffering from a serious medical condition.
You may legally reapply and speak to a different officer at any time. However, please be aware that all officers must make their decisions based on the same U.S. immigration law. Rest assured that all visa applications are given full consideration at the time of the interview.
My family denied twice and we received a blue paper. Is it possible for us to re-apply again? if we apply for the 3rd time and we are denied again, is it still possible for us to re-apply again and again? or is there a possibility that the consul will tell us we are forbidden to apply again for a nonimmigrant visa? this makes me afraid if we can’t apply forever.

I was interviewed last May 24, 2012. My j-1 visa was denied. Right after the day I got denied (May 25, 2012) I paid for another visa appointment in BPI. A friend told me that I need to fill out another ds-160 form which I did and then when I entered the receipt number ( which is the passport number) the site told me tha “No valid record can be found for the entered receipt number. Please validate that your receipt number is correct and that you have paid the correct amount for the visa which you are applying for. ” Hope you can help me on this matter. Because I already paid for another appointment and I hope that my receipt won’t be forfeited.
Hi Marion. You can call (02) 982-5555 or (02) 902-8930 for assistance. The call center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays.
i had apllied last 2008 for visit visa to meet the family of my fiancee that time.sad to say i was refused because they prefer us to apply for fiancee visa.i just cannot understand why still they refused me as i told them my fiancee that time was in Iraq as active army.and we just supposed to visit USA using his 2 weeks vacation from his Iraq duty. Are you not really giving favor in this kind of case?thank you.
MG, thank you for writing. Every applicant must qualify on his/her own merits. To that end, certain spouses or fiancees of U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents may qualify for a nonimmigrant visa under certain circumstances. However, due to the bonds of marriage and the presumption by the interviewing officer that the U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident’s spouse or fiancee will want to permanently reside with the citizen in the United States, spouses or fiancees of Lawful Permanent Residents or U.S. citizens that reside in the United States may find it difficult to qualify for a nonimmigrant visa.
may interview last may 2012 given a green paper to submit certificate i already submitted. I check online status under pending review. my question what my next thing to so?
Hi Joey. The Nonimmigrant Visa Unit will contact you as soon as the administrative processing or review is completed. You can check the status of your case online or contact us at (02) 301-2104. The Nonimmigrant Visa Unit inquiry line is open from 8:00 am. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time.
Dear sir / madam : I am k1 holder , I am here now in u.s but my child will follow later, and now my question is all about k2 : what documents that I need to send or file to get my child to be . thanks
Thank you for posting a comment on VISAtisfied Voyager, U.S. Embassy Manila’s visa blog.
You may visit the Embassy’s website at http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3238.html for the required documentation and procedures to follow for fiancé(e) derivative (K2) visa applicants.
Please note that issuance of K2 visa must follow within one year from the date the fiancé(e) visa (K1) was issued to the principal applicant.
Hi! I am Sam. My family applied for a tourist visa two years ago and unfortunately, we were denied two times in a row due to 1) were not able to demonstrate strong familial, social, profession and economic ties…. and 2) do not have sufficient ties in the Phils. to prove that we are coming back.
Honestly, our purpose is to Roam around US coz my sister said its really very beautiful and we were excited to see and visit them as well. I just want to know if there are other possible ways to establish that we are really coming back after the trip. I have this question in my mind since we were denied but i dont know if this is possible.
Can we bond like 5M and leave other properties? If ever we cannot come back on the specific dates that we have in our trip, all these properties and bond are forfeited. Maybe with this, we can establish that we are really coming back. We will highly appreciate if this is possible, as long as we can Roam around in your beautiful country.
Please enlighten my mind. We are just too excited to have this trip if given a chance but honestly we are afraid to apply again. Hoping this is considerable. Thank you so much.
Sam, there is no provision in the law that allows the posting of bonds as a guarantee of return. Moreover, this could not be considered as familial, social, economic, or professional ties that could affect the applicant’s eligibility for a visa.
My schedule interview at the US Embassy will be on July 31 of this year for non-immigrant visa. Aside from the usual required documents mention in the Appointment Confirmation, is there other documents needed in the interview.
Nathaniel, applicants are required to bring the following basic requirements to the interview: appointment confirmation letter, DS-160 confirmation page, valid passport, one 2” x 2” photo, and all prior passports and U.S. visas, if available. Depending on the type of visa you are applying for, you may also need to bring additional requirements. Please visit our website for information on the visa types and corresponding requirements.
I am scheduled for a NIV interview on july 23, 2012 but up to now i have not receive any interview appointment letter yet…what will i do?
Mildred, you can contact the call center at (02) 982-5555 and (02) 902-8930 to inquire about your appointment letter. The call center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays
hi today i have taken interview, but the consulate gave me the green paper . they said we will review your case you just need to wait for 90 or less then 90 days… please tell me that what green paper means that
The green paper is the 221(g) letter that is issued to nonimmigrant visa applicants whose cases are temporarily suspended under section 221(g) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended. If the consular officer tells you that your case is under 221(g), it means that your case is being reviewed or is under administrative processing. You can check the status of your application online or call the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit at (02)301-2104 any time from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays.
Hi!me,my sister and my father interviewed last July 19,2012 under F1-unmarried sons/daughters of US citizens. My father was given 221g form requesting for another affidavit of support(because we only have one affidavit of support). My father already mailed the documents last Aug.2,2012 and when we checked the 2GO e-trace we see that it is already receive by MANUEL MANALAYSAY(one of the consul in US Embassy).
Now,my question is how long we will wait to have our visa?
PS;US Embassy took our passports.
Mirah, we cannot tell you how long exactly you will need to wait. A Consular Officer will review your submitted documents and will let you know if any other documents are needed.
Hi! I had my VRP appointment last month but got a green letter that I have to appear at the US embassy for an interview on Tues. or Thurs..It did not specify a date or month. I plan to go for the US embassy interview 6 months from now. Will it still be valid 6 months from now? Will I have to pay another $160? Do I have to fill out another DS160 form?
Thank you.
Arnold, you can come back to the Embassy within one year from the date of your 221(g) letter for your interview with a consular officer. You do NOT need to pay another application fee and fill out new application form. Please send a letter to the Nonimigrant Visa Unit at ConsManilaNIV@state.gov when you will be able to come back for the interview. Please include your complete name, date of birth, and passport number. Please see also our previous blog post about VRP here. Thank you.

hi, my family applied for NIV B2 so to attend a family wedding. The wedding is scheduled last week of september, but the appointment for interview given to us is 2 days away from the intended date of supposed departure. Is it possible for us to get a reschedule/ for an earlier schedule as a family? thanks for the infos.
You can call (02) 982-5555 or (02) 902-8930 to check the availability of earlier interview appointments. The call center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays. Available appointments can also be viewed online through http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ph. Please note that applicants are allowed to reschedule their appointment twice (not including the initial appointment) without penalty. However, if the second rescheduling attempt is canceled, an applicant will only be allowed to reschedule a new date after a waiting period of 90 days. Applicants are advised to plan their visa applications accordingly to avoid problems securing an interview appointment. Thank you.
I was interviewed last September 12, 2012, H1B category. I was interviewed twice. At the end of the 2nd interview, I was told that I will just receive a call. If not, I may follow up through the number that the 2nd interviewer gave after 1 week. The consul kept my passport and a copy of my contract with my employer in US. I was not given any slip just like the ones I have read in this thread. How do I go about this?
Anne, you can inquire on the status of your visa application by sending an email to the Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) Unit at ConsManilaNIV@state.gov. You can also call the NIV inquiry line at (02)301-2104 any time from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays. When you inquire about your case status, you will need to provide your full name, passport number, and date of birth. Thank you.
hello! the consul issued me a 221(g) with a checked box: your application requires further admin processing plus a control number. she did not take my passport and told me that i need to wait because my case needs to be reviewed. she added the following information:
1. i will receive a call from the embassy when the processing is over;
2. i may not follow up my status by calling the embassy. instead use the control # written on my 221(g) to check it online;
3. there is no need to go to back to the embassy to submit my passport when asked to do so.
today i received a call from someone who claims he is from USEM. the caller used a mobile number to contact me on my mobile number. he told me that i may now submit my passport to the USEM consular section via the courier 2go. i was expecting the number would be a regular landline number. so is this legit? i checked my status online but the info has not been updated yet.
if the call/caller is legit, do i need to include the 221(g) form the consul gave me after my interview? the caller did not give further info about it. he just said– mail your passport.
please help. thanks!
You can contact the Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) Unit at (02)301-2104 should you wish to verify the status of your application. The NIV helpline is open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you were asked to submit your passport, please include the 221g letter. Thank you.
Hello! After our interview we recieved 221g cause my sons’ medical wasn’t finish yet but after our interview we made it and get his medical done, how long do we expect our visa? In the letter it stated there that we are under ap and they will contact us together with the medical report but st. lukes told me they will be the one to pass it directly..Is it just ok? your response will surely make me at ease with our situation right now! Thanks
To inquire on the status of your nonimmigrant visa application, please send an email to ConsManilaNIV@state.gov. Please provide your full name, passport number, and date of birth. For inquiries regarding K visas, please contact the Immigrant Visa Unit. Thank you.
I have just finished my interview this morning and right after the interview I was given a blue letter telling I was denied for a NIV. In suppose a Consular Officer should indicate reason/s why I did not qualify for a NIV by marking X to the given reasons but to no avail. Btw, this is my first time to apply for a NIV.
Can you enlighten me on this, please?
Many thanks.
Marlon, if you wish to clarify why you did not qualify for the nonimmigrant visa, you can send an email to the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit at ConsManilaNIV@state.gov. Provide you full name, passport number, and date of birth. In general, applicants for nonimmigrant visas must be able to prove that they are not intending immigrants by demonstrating sufficiently strong familial, social, professional, and economic ties to a country outside the United States that would compel return after a temporary stay in the United States. All of these factors are considered in the process, and U.S. Immigration law requires that the visa application be refused if these strong ties are not apparent.
Sorry to interrupt i just dont know how to start or post a convo here.
Hi there, i am a K1 fiance visa applicant to US. I had my interview last oct. 3,2012 unfortunately the consulate is asking for more proofs, and domicile and a letter of employment. Me and my fiance had been together for 1 1/2 year abroad. My fiance tried to get a letter of employment from his work, but his company refused to provide him a letter of employment. We thought his work will be for good but then they announced that they will lay off people from their company. So basically, he cant have now a letter of employment Though they are still payed by the company but it wont last for long. We just need some help of what else could we possibly do if we cant get a employment letter. We can provide more proofs and domicile (which he owns a house and he owns other personal properties like cars and a saving bank account in the u.s) but not the letter of employment. However, we are thinking about using cosponsors. 3 of my fiances family members iare willing to help us and be our co sponsor if we really have to. I want t know your suggestion of what else we could possibly do to get approved though the consulate is asking for a letter of employment? Please help. Thank you

Hi, my name is mae I just had my interview last 2 days October 23, 2012. I was approved for Visa, my question is, how long do i have to wait for my visa to be delivered since the last officer told me that it will be delivered but she didnt say when since they don’t estimate for the time base on what she told me?? If ever I received my visa, when to take the CFO? Thank you!
Thank you for your interest in the VISAtisfied Voyager.
Once a visa is approved for issuance, it will take the courier service 7 to 10 working days to deliver the visa packet to the applicant’s designated address.
Philippine law requires all departing Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad to attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). Only emigrants aged 12 years and younger are exempted from attending the PDOS. Although this is not a U.S. Government requirement, we do make this information available to all fiance and immigrant visa applicants. An information sheet regarding the CFO/PDOS seminar is routinely attached to a visa packet to ensure that applicants are aware of this requirement.
For additional information (registration and counseling requirements, PDOS schedule, and schedule of guidance and counseling sessions), the applicant may visit CFO’s website at: http://www.cfo.gov.ph.

I was interviewed last week for a B1/B2 visa renewal. I was given a case number and told to check it. Case was posted the next day and was still under processing. Today i checked my case status and i saw the following message:
“Please submit your passport to our office via the DHL Courier Service within 30 days of the Response Date []. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we hope to be able to adjudicate your application in 10 days from the date we receive your passport.”
My problem is, i dont see a Response Date at all! should i wait another business day since it maybe a system delay? or did they post this update by mistake? or shouldi just send in my passport?
Thank you!

I was interviewed today, Nov. 6, 2012 and was given the white paper, 221 (g) form. The American CO who interviewed me said they need my medical report from SLEC. The guy from window 71 gave me the 221(g) form and checked medical examination results and ‘wait until you hear from us’. I have told every officer who interviewed me even up to the last window that I have my cd from SLEC with me and even the vaccination report but they refused to see it, telling me that what they need is the one from SLEC. So, I got home, I called SLEC (as the guy from window 71 told me that I may try and follow up with SLEC too about my medical report), the lady that I have talked to said they have already forwarded my results to the embassy, dated Sept. 6 since my medical was done Sept 4 and Sept 5 for vaccination.
Please let me know what to do? My fiance and I are getting married Dec. 8, have booked the church, 50+ relatives of my fiance have already confirmed but I have read being under AP can take weeks to months? Help us please! We are doing our very best to provide all the documents/requirements needed but with this one, we are very confused.
Thank you

we were interviewed last nov. 14, 2012. but unfortunately we were refused because the consul had some questions on legality maybe when she saw my niece’s birth certificate who is a minor,.. her parent’s marriage were change from “married” to “not married”. but the cenomar proves that her parents were not really married. We were asked to provide old pictures of them but unluckily those years we dont have pictures of them together.. but just a picture of my niece and her mom which was taken separately.
At the time of our interview (i was there since she’s a minor), we were asked to give these stuff (the pictures and CENOMAR of her mom). But we were not given any 221(g) form or the green form which i read from some posts. why is that so? Our visa applcation is IR2.
We already sent this lacking proof at 2go and applied for new cenomar at e-census. when i checked at NSO it says it was already dispatched.. and with 2go, it was already received by Mr. manalaysay.
Please let us know how could we receive a reply? is it through email or a call?
Btw, her brother and her sister were already there, she was just delayed because she got pregnant.
Please help us know.
Thank you.

But i was given a yellow letter under section 221(g) and the visa officer asked me to check my bar code online. Its been 12 days but i have not seen my barcode. The person who is going with me has a valid US Visa but i dont. I want to know about my process. It is a very serious matter i want to go there for medical reason. I want to know what can i do? Whom to contact? Can i reapply as i dont have too much time on my hand as it is a very serious medical issue.

Hello,
My fiancé’s interview was on Oct 25 and the consular told him everything looks good but the his file will be sent for AP. they kept his passport and told him it may take 4 to 6 weeks. It’s been over 2 months and still haven’t heard anything from the embassy. He was given a yellow paper but no box was checked. I sent an email to the embassy in Frankfurt Germany but they did not respond to my email.
What should I do?
Thank you.

Hi! I had my interview last Jan 28.2013 k1/k2. My interview goes well, the consul didn’t asked me too much questions and I think she was satisfied to all my proofs/evidence of my relationship to my fiance. But at the end of the interview she told me wait for another instruction. Then from other window a guy gave me a white paper 221(g) requesting for my nbi and reverification of my cenomar and told me to go home now and get nbi and cenomar. The next day I got my nbi and send thru 2GO and informed me that they will send that the next day after that I went to nso for the reverification of my cenomar. My question is how long does it take to get the passport with visa from the day that usembassy receive my nbi and reverification of my cenomar? Is there a possibility of being denied even they recieved my nbi and my cenomar?
