K1 Visa FAQs: Application (IV)

THE K PACKET

I am confused about the Form DS-160 and Form DS-156.  What is the difference?

K visa applicants are not yet required to complete the DS-160 (Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application).  Each K nonimmigrant visa applicant must submit the following:

  • two (2) completed copies of the DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa Application
  • two (2) completed copies of the DS-157 Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application
  • one (1) completed copy of the DS-156K Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application (this is for K1 applicants only)

The forms may be downloaded from this link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html

Should you make a mistake in filling out the forms, you may download new ones.

I wish to know how and where I can get a CEAC confirmation letter as part of the requirement for my visa interview.

CEAC stands for Consular Electronic Application Center, where the Form DS-160 is located.  Since K visa applicants do not need to fill out this form, a CEAC letter is not needed.

See our other K1 Visa FAQs for more information about K1 visas: Who needs to attend the interview?; NBI and other police clearances; and affidavits of support.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
i filled up a form for scheduling our interview for B-2 VISA.On that form ask me for add dependent.so i put my daughter as my dependent because we both getting this visa.just make me little confused about it.Its say dependents it does means that my daughter will go with me on that same date and time for the interview?

    • NIV2 says:

Hi Maria Teresa. You and your daughter should have separate accounts for your interview appointment. Depending on the availability of interview appointments, you can schedule your interview on the same date and time. If you were able to get the same schedule, your applications will be processed together. If your daughter is a minor, you should get the same schedule because minor applicants are required to appear with at least one parent for the interview. You can book your appointment by calling (02) 982-5555 or (02) 902-8930. The call center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Manila time, except on U.S. and Philippine holidays. Appointments can also be booked online through http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ph.

Thank you for posting a comment on VISAtisfied Voyager, U.S. Embassy Manila’s visa blog.

fiancé(e) (K1) visa applicants must submit two (2) completed copies of the DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa Application and DS-157 Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application, and one (1) completed copy of the DS-156K Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application.

Please note that K1 applicants must pay the visa application fee of $240, before they can request a visa appointment via the online appointment website or the Embassy’s Visa Call Center.

Once you have paid the visa application fee, you may schedule an appointment by calling the Embassy’s call center or by visiting this website: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ph to schedule an interview date online.

Few things to ask about: What do DS-160, K1, K2 Visa stand for?

    • VISAtisfied Voyager says:

Thank you for your interest in the VISAtisfied Voyager.

The K visa is a nonimmigrant visa that does not automatically grant U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident (LPR) status to the beneficiaries.
K-1 stands for a Fiancé(e) Visa, while K-2 is the visa classification for K-1’s minor children (unmarried and below 21 years of age).

Those who qualify for K visas will be able to join their partners in the United States as a nonimmigrant, without the potentially long period of separation during the petition process. They will need to adjust their immigration status in the United States to become lawful permanent residents.

The Form DS-160, a nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, is a fully integrated online application form that is used to collect necessary application information from nonimmigrant visa applicants, except for those in the K, N, S, T, and U categories, in U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Eventually, the entire visa electronic application process will be universal. It’s just that right now, implementation is in stages.

    • VISAtisfied Voyager says:

K nonimmigrant visa applicants are not yet required to complete the DS-160 (Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application) Form.
There is no way to delete this form from the system–however, we wish to assure you that this will not affect your visa application. For a list of requirements in preparation for the visa interview, you may wish to visit our website at http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3023.html.
